The goal of the Office for English Language Services is to help members and friends of the church worldwide to learn, teach, and assess English language skills. The office is currently involved in the following activities in order to pursue that goal:

• Developing, organizing, and distributing resources and information for meeting needs in ESL learning, teaching, and assessment.


• Creating and maintaining an OELS web site containing useful materials and instructions.


• Providing ESL/EFL assessment and certification to missionaries, members, and friends of the church, as well as to organizations and institutions requesting such information.


• Facilitating the distribution, administration, and scoring of the English Certification Test (ECT) for missionaries worldwide and the issuance of certificates.


• Training raters to rate the ECTs.


• Encouraging faculty/student conference participation on topics related to OELS operations.


• Providing travel assistance to sites where OELS resources are used.
